What it can do
- Reels with caption (up to 2,200 characters), "also show in feed", collaborators, cover image or cover frame, audio name and location.
- Trial Reels that are first shown to non-followers, if your account has the feature.
- Stories with a video or a photo.
- Photos and carousels. A single image or a carousel of up to 10 items – images and videos can be mixed.
- First comment right after publishing, e.g. for hashtags.
- Statistics. Followers and number of posts of the account, likes and comments of a post.
- No Facebook page needed. We use the Instagram API with Instagram Login, so a professional account is enough.
Instagram fetches the media itself from a signed, unguessable address on our servers that expires with the media.
Limits
- Review: Meta App Review and Meta business verification. Until Meta has approved our app, the connect button shows "coming soon".
- Professional accounts only: Business or Creator. Personal Instagram accounts cannot post via API.
- 100 API posts per 24 hours per account (Instagram's limit; carousels count as one).
- Carousels: at most 10 items.
- Delete: Instagram's API does not allow deleting posts.
- Instagram processes videos after the upload; long or unusual files can take a few minutes before they appear.
Setup
- Make sure your Instagram account is a professional account (Instagram app → Settings → Account type and tools).
- In our app open Accounts, choose the profile and click Connect on the Instagram tile.
- Sign in with Instagram and allow publishing and comment access.
- The tile now shows your Instagram name. In New post tick Instagram and pick Reel, Story or – for images – photo or carousel.
Via API: platform[]=instagram; for photos use /api/upload_photos with several photos[]. More: connect accounts.
FAQ
Do I need a Facebook page?
No. The Instagram API with Instagram Login works with the professional account alone.
Why did my Reel not appear in the feed?
Check "also show in feed" (share_to_feed). Trial Reels are not shown to followers first by design.
Can I tag people in photos?
Collaborators work for Reels and photos. Tagging people at a position in the picture needs coordinates; send user_tags via the API.
What happens at the daily limit?
Instagram refuses further posts for 24 hours. We show the current usage and let the post fail with a clear message instead of retrying endlessly.
